Brett Baumeister (Bus ’89) was named the western Ohio market president for Mutual Federal, a division of First Bank Richmond. He was the Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year in 2016. Headquartered in Richmond, Ind., First Bank Richmond is a mutual state bank offering a full range of consumer and commercial banking and investment services.

*Dr. Caroline Brackette (A/S ’94, A/S ’98, MEd ’00, PhD ’07) received the 2018 American Counseling Association (ACA) Southern Region Leadership Award for her leadership and advocacy as branch president of the ACA in Georgia. She is an associate professor of counseling in Mercer University’s Penfield College, located in Atlanta, Ga.

Arianne Lovey (NSM ’13) was honored with the “25 Under 35” award from her high school, Saint Joseph Academy, located in Cleveland. She was recognized for going above and beyond in personal and professional endeavors since her graduation in 2009. Lovey is currently a biomedical sciences/infection immunity and inflammation PhD candidate and graduate fellow at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
Hasan Dudar (A/S ’10) was named Michigan’s Young Journalist of the Year by the Detroit Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. He joined the Detroit Free Press in 2017 as a breaking news reporter.

Faculty, staff & friends
Dr. Ben Pansky, Toledo, 90. He joined the faculty in 1970, one year after his book, “Review of Gross Anatomy,” was published. A noted medical author and illustrator, he drew more than 1,000 illustrations for the work, which has been used by medical students for decades. Many of Pansky’s books have been translated into several languages. When he retired in 1997, he received emeritus designation. He was rehired in 1997 and worked until 2004, when he became a volunteer faculty member.
Marie G. (Lorenz) Bremer, Toledo, 91. She was a member of the Satellites Auxiliary and volunteered with pastoral care.
Frank J. Parker, Temperance, Mich., 85. He was a former carpenter at the University.
Dr. Frank P. Saul, Toledo, 87. He joined the MCO faculty in 1969 and taught until 1990. Saul then served as associate dean for continuing medical education until his retirement in 1994. The internationally known forensic anthropologist created a term to describe the interpretation of lives from bones: “osteobiography.” He was diplomate and president of the American Board of Forensic Anthropology. Saul also was a senior consultant in forensic anthropology at the Lucas County Coroner’s Office and a forensic anthropology consultant for the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office in Detroit. From 1997 to 2011, he served as commander for the Region 5 Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team of the Department of Health and Human Services for the National Disaster Medical System.
**Dr. Judith (Judy) Schoonmaker (A/S ’81, MED ’84), Toledo, 70. In the 1970s, she was a secretary in Radiology when she decided to become a physician. Schoonmaker joined the general medicine faculty at MCO in 1988 and retired as an associate professor in 2004.
James Van Orden, Toledo, 83. A native Toledoan and friend of the University, Van Orden was an avid collector of historical memorabilia related to the Glass City for more than 50 years. His collection focused on items produced and showcased in Toledo, with an emphasis on documents and brochures. The retiree from General Motors Powertrain found items at estate and garage sales, as well as business closures and flea markets. Over the years, he donated many items to the Ward M. Canaday Center for Special Collections.
Brenda L. (Carrol) Hoot, Waterville, Ohio, 58. She was a former MUO employee.
Sue M. (Martin) Shew (MEd ’80), Toledo, 87. She was a founding member of UT’s Women and Philanthropy.
Helen Marie (Majka) Wodarski, Toledo, 85. She worked in the College of Education and the American Language Institute, retiring from the University in 1994.
