’60s
Franklyn Olmstead (Ed ’61), Erie, Mich., competed in the 25th National Veterans Golden Age Games held in Honolulu in June, and came home with silver medals in the shot put, and the 25- and 50-meter backstroke. He also received a medal for the six-member outrigger canoe event. The games are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Veteran Canteen Service and Help Hospitalized Veterans.
Larry Rochelle (Ed ’62, Ed Spec ’80) sent his tennis-pro sleuth, Palmer Morel, to Savannah, Ga., for the latest in his series of mystery novels, Bonaventure, available at Amazon.com and McIntyre’s Books.

Gretchen M. (Schultz) Reed (Ed ’65), Madison, Ohio, was the subject of a story that appeared in the spring issue of Philanthropy magazine, covering the retired teacher’s longtime second career as aviatrix and co-owner/operator of Pheasant Run Airport, which she and her husband Chuck began developing in the 1970s. Over time the couple added museum-type hangars to display the many restored aircraft they had collected. After Chuck’s death in 2008, Gretchen decided to establish a life estate with Lake Erie College for the museum, buildings, airplanes and equipment. The college is developing the extensive acreage as a historical center for aviation as well as a learning center for aviation and avionics majors.
Keith C. Smith (MEd ’67), Charleston, W.Va., who works with the Appalachian Coal Field Rural Systemic Initiative, was inducted into the Glenville State College Curtis Elam Athletic Hall of Fame, saluting his four years in football at his undergraduate alma mater. A longtime soccer coach, he also played two seasons with the Wheeling Ironmen. He and his wife, Mary Jo, have two adult children and one grandchild.
James D. Jensen (Law ’69), Lucas County Common Pleas Court judge, was elected to a three-year term as District 4 representative on the Board of Governors for the Ohio State Bar Association.

Edward (A/S ’72, Law ’76) and Barbara (Venendaal) Yosses (A/S ’73, Ed ’74, Law ’93), Loveland, Colo., celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in June with a trip to California’s wine country.
Surendrakant (Suru) L. Manek (MBA ’73) Brea, Calif., completed 35 years as an independent businessman. Among his roles: exporter of aviation-related products, gift item manufacturer and banquet facility (Ritz Gardens Banquet) operator.

Jeff Lingo (UTCTC ’82, Univ Coll ’86, Law ’89), Waterville, chief of the criminal division for the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office, was named a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, an organization made up of top U.S. trial lawyers.
Mike Clawson (Law ’83) opened his own law office in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., after 26 years with the firm of Hardy Lewis and Page. Michael S. Clawson PLLC specializes in business and real estate litigation, estate planning and family law. Jennifer M. (Sahley) Conrad (A/S ’84), Toledo, was named membership director for Belmont Country Club in Perrysburg, while retaining her position as corporate sales director and golf-shop consultant soft good buyer. With more than 15 years of experience, she’s one of five female buyers in Ohio.

Bridget N. (Dotson) Ridley (Univ Coll ’00, Bus ’02) started her own business as an independent representative for ACN, an international supplier of home and business telecommunications. She and her husband Jason have three children: Jason Jr. and twins Jordan and Justis. She also works for the city of Toledo.
Nobuhisa Yoshida (HHS ’02), a graduate student at the University of Florida, where he also works as the men’s basketball team as assistant strength and conditioning coach, presented at a seminar in Yokohama, Japan, for trainers, coaches and students studying sports medicine in U.S. universities, sharing what he’s learned working with the Gators.
Brian M. Smith MD (MED 03), Midlothian, Va., gained a new office with Surgical Associates of Richmond now that the city’s oldest independent surgical practice has moved to a new location in the Waterford Medical Center.
Kelly (Buehrer) Landwehr (Bus ’04, MSA ’08), a certified public accountant, was promoted to manager in the government and not-for-profit group of Sylvania financial services provider Weber O’Brien Ltd.
Shelly Musshel-Kennedy (Law ’05), who works in Lucas County Common Pleas Court, graduated from the Ohio State Bar Association’s second Leadership Academy, designed to identify and support future legal community leaders.
Amy C. (Mueller) Tolson (HHS ’05, HS ’07) was promoted to director of rehabilitation at Perrysburg Care & Rehabilitation, managing therapeutic staff that includes speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists.
Andrea L. Wierman DO (A/S ’05) graduated in May from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. In July, she started her internship at Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Mich., with a plan of practicing emergency medicine.

Sarah H. Stone (A/S ’06) works in operations with MindStream Academy in Bluffton, S.C., a boarding high school designed for students struggling with obesity. The school’s academic program dovetails with its behavior-changing therapies that mesh cutting-edge approaches such as neurobiofeedback and equine-assisted psychotherapy with a back-to-the-basics emphasis on a healthy, sensible lifestyle.
Joseph E. Yonke (HS ’07), Atlanta, joined the Mercer University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences as a clinical assistant professor with their PA school, after completing three years of clinical practice in emergency medicine and infectious disease at the Cleveland Clinic.

Evelyn E. (Hepp) Davis, Cincinnati, July 9 at 91. She joined the UT staff as a costumer in the Theatre Department in 1964. Over the years, her title changed to seamstress, tailor, administrative specialist and theatre costume specialist, the position she retired from in 1981.
Virginia “Ginnie” Gulch, Lambertville, Mich., executive secretary in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, June 14 at 59. In 1999, she joined the staff as a secretary in the President’s Office and moved to Student Affairs in 2000. In April, she was recognized for her exceptional contributions to the UT community by the University Women’s Commission, which honored her with one of its Outstanding Women Awards.

**John “Jack” A. Spiess PhD, Sylvania, longtime UT education faculty member, June 21 at 84. He joined the University in 1967 as it was making the transition from a municipal to a state institution. His first position was assistant professor in the college’s Division of Educational Leadership Development; he became an associate professor in 1970 and division director the following year. In 1973 he became professor of educational administration and supervision, and chair of the Department of Educational Leadership in 1984. He retired in 1994.
