’70s
*Jenny Deason Copeland (A/S ’72) is a Nixon administration expert and analyzes the similarities and differences between Trump and Nixon. Deason Copeland was referenced in the prweb.com news center, an online news resource. In her book, “Tiananmen West: Why Nixon Ordered the Kent State Massacre,” she provides details supporting her theory that Nixon was in direct control of the event.
**Dr. David A. Border (Eng ’76, MEng ’77, PhD ’86) became the faculty senate chair at Bowling Green State University. Border has been a professor at Bowling Green since 1998. |
**Dr. John Rudley (Bus ’70) is the new director of the Erin Energy Corp. board of directors. Rudley most recently served as the president of Texas Southern University from February 2008 to July 2016. He is a certified public accountant in Texas. Erin Energy is involved in exploration, development, and production of oil and gas.

William Chris (Law ’85) is the new managing partner at Roderick Linton Belfance law firm, located in Akron, Ohio. Chris focuses his practice on insurance defense and coverage, fraud investigation, as well as matters involving real estate, collections, and business litigation.
Richard White (Eng ’80) was promoted to president of SSL Government Systems. White will focus on growth in the U.S. government business as well as developing robust solutions across all U.S. government agencies. SSL, located in Palo Alto, Calif., is a provider of innovative satellites and spacecraft systems.
Tony Ciaccia (Pharm ’81) was installed to a second term as a Trustee in the Ohio Pharmacists Association. Ciaccia is pharmacy operations supervisor at St. John Medical Center in Westlake. |

James Robert Elliott (Law ’96) was presented with the Alumnus of the Year Award by the Greater Scranton Chapter of Penn State University Alumni Association. Elliott owns a law practice in Scranton and focuses on litigation, criminal defense, and appellate practice.
The. Hon. Keith Schierloh (Law ’99) was sworn in as Putnam County’s 16th common pleas court judge. Schierloh is a general practice attorney at Schierloh, O’Malley & Associates, located in Ottawa, Ohio. Establishing a drug court in Putnam County is one of his priorities. Drug courts offer rehabilitation options, rather than jail time, to low-level felony drug offenders.
Dr. Andrea Milner (Ed ’93, MEd ’01, PhD ’08) is the new vice president and dean of academic affairs at Adrian College. Milner served one year as the institution’s dean of graduate studies. |
*Dr. Joel Mayerson (A/S ’90) was elected to the president line of the executive committee of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society in 2016. Mayerson also serves in the president line of the executive committee of the Ohio Orthopedic Society as secretary-treasurer. He is a professor of othopaedics at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and director of the sarcoma program at the Arthur G. James Cancer Center. This year marked his seventh consecutive year of being honored by Castle Connolly as both a Best Cancer Doctor in America as well as a Best Orthopedic Doctor in America.

Sandy Brazeau (HSHS ’09, MHSHS ’14) was inducted in the Swanton High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Brazeau was a four-time varsity letter winner in track and field and a three-time league champion. She currently holds the school record in both the shot put and the discus. Brazeau participated in four years of track at UT, earning her varsity letter her freshman year, and was ranked the top freshman thrower in the Mid-American Conference.
Alan Miller (Eng ’02) joined the team at Russell Planning and Engineering as a project engineer. Located in Durango, Colo., Russell provides services in land planning, entitlement, civil engineering, landscape design, and construction management.
Dr. Edward R. Recker (UTCTC ’01, Univ Coll ’02, MED ’08) is the new University of Findlay’s vice president of enrollment management. Recker will lead the university’s enrollment efforts, including overseeing the offices of domestic and international admissions, financial aid, marketing, and the registrar.
Sarah Cullum (Ed ’01, MEd ’07) joined Notre Dame Academy as principal. Located in Toledo, Notre Dame is an all-girls Catholic high school.
Ted Rath (Ed ’07) accepted the position of head strength and conditioning coach for the Los Angeles Rams. Rath is entering his ninth season working in the NFL, and was previously an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Miami Dolphins.
**Chief Warrant Officer Justin Shedron (A/S ’07, A/S ’07) earned a juris doctor degree from the Widener University Commonwealth Law School, located in Harrisburg, Pa.

Richard R. Etter (Univ Coll ’15) was awarded a 2017 National Board for Certified Counselors Foundation military scholarship. The scholarship is given to service members, veterans, and their spouses who are pursuing a counseling education and commit to serving fellow military personnel, veterans, and families upon graduation. Etter is pursuing a master’s degree in the clinical mental health counseling program at UT. Upon graduation, he intends to work with military veterans and their family members.
Dr. Vicky Wood (PhD ’12) was selected as the seventh president of the Washington State Community College. The college is located in Marietta, Ohio, and provides residents of the Mid-Ohio Valley the opportunity to enhance skills and broaden understanding.
Births and Marriages
Brent Lee Bondy (Eng ’02, Law ’08) and Amy Elizabeth Groulx are engaged to be married in August. Brent is employed as corporate counsel for Magna International in Troy, Mich., and Amy is an office manager at Performax Physical Therapy in Woodhaven.
Ben Notario (Univ Coll ’14) and McKinsey Hoover will be married on Sept. 23. Ben is employed by the City of Monroe, Mich., and McKinsey is a CT technologist.

*Winfred “Fred” Fails (MEd ’66, Ed Spec ’79), Maumee, Ohio, 81. He was a former math instructor who helped with the Upward Bound program.
Walda G. Kelly, Toledo, 58. She worked at MCO for 19 years.
Lawrence J. “Larry” Kirsch, Toledo, 85. He worked on campus from 1994 to 2002.
Dorothy J. Martindale, Toledo, 90. She worked at MCO for more than two decades. She joined the staff in 1968 and retired as housekeeping manager in the Environmental Services Department in 1994.
Ray E. Mowery, Toledo, 80. He was a former part-time instructor.
Clark H. Reber (Ed ’50, MEd ’56, Ed Spec ’72, HSHS ’00), Sylvania, Ohio, 88. In 1966, he was named the University’s first director of financial aid. He served in that position until his retirement in 1981.
Theresa “Tessie” (Muszynski) Reiter, Toledo, 97. She was a volunteer with the Satellites Auxiliary.
Theodore J. “Ted” Rondeau, Whitehouse, Ohio, 70. He was a volunteer with the Satellites Auxiliary.
Robert “Leo” Dressel, Toledo, 66. He was a paramedic in the hospital Emergency Department from 1994 to 2011.
Clarence (Jack) Gump, Toledo, 91. He was a part-time instructor who taught Latin from 1999 to 2006.
**Kenneth E. DeShelter (Bus ’57), Naples, Fla., and Dublin, Ohio, 88. He was a former trustee of MCO, appointed to a nine-year term by Gov. Richard Celeste in 1988. He resigned from the board when he moved to Florida in 1994.
John M. Garn, Sylvania, Ohio, 78. He taught at UT from 1994 to 2002.
Roy Treuhaft, Toledo, 100. In 1974, he was appointed to the MCO Board of Trustees by Gov. John Gilligan and later served as chairman. Treuhaft was also a member of the Medical University of Ohio Foundation Board of Trustees from 1979 to 1990. He was a real estate leader in the area for four decades and studied at UT for two years.
Dr. Jaak Panksepp, Bowling Green, Ohio, 73. He was an adjunct professor in psychiatry from 1990 to 2009.
Lovell Jones, Sylvania, Ohio, 94. She was director of day care at MCO when she retired in 1983. Jones joined the day care staff at Maumee Valley Hospital in 1953. She served on the advisory board of the UT Community and Technical College.
**Joan Siegel Katz, Toledo, 82. She was appointed by Gov. Richard Celeste to serve a nine-year term on the UT Board of Trustees from 1984 to 1993. During that time, she participated in the selection of two presidents – Dr. James McComas in 1985 and Dr. Frank Horton in 1988.
Bruce M. “Bruno” Hankins, Pemberville, Ohio, 81. He was a successful insurance salesman who lectured at UT.
Rosemary F. Kwiatkowski, Toledo, 76. She was a member of the Satellites Auxiliary who volunteered in the Orthopaedic Department.
Wendell B. “Wendy” Lawrence, Toledo, 91. He worked at MCO from 1980 until his retirement in 1993. Over the years, Lawrence was the director of cardiac rehabilitation and manager of fitness at the Morse Center.
Melvin R. Nissen, Pemberville, Ohio, 87. He was an electronic technician at UT.
