’60s

Kenneth C. Martis (Ed ’68)published and co-edited his eighth book on American politics, “The Atlas of the 2016 Elections.” Martis is an American political geographer notable for his mapping and documentation of the electoral history of the United States. He is an emeritus professor in the department of geology and geography at West Virginia University.

**Dr. Lance A. Talmage (Eng ’60) accepted the position of associate dean for graduate medical education and designated institutional official at UT in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences. He is a longtime faculty member of the College and has served in leadership positions, including interim chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Talmage also serves on the State Medical Board of Ohio and as chair of the Federation of State Medical Boards. He is a past president of the University of Toledo Alumni Association.

’70s

Deborah Randall (Pharm ’77) was installed as the trustee representing District 1 in the Ohio Pharmacists Association. Randall has practiced community pharmacy in the Toledo area for more than 30 years and has held all offices in the Sandusky Valley Academy of Pharmacy. Before her retirement, she practiced at Grund Drug in Fremont, Ohio.

’80s

Janis E. Susalla Foley (Law ’86) was appointed to the Ohio Supreme Court’s Commission on the Certification of Attorneys as Specialist. She will serve a three-year term, ending Dec. 31, 2020. Foley is employed at the law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP in Toledo and focuses her practice primarily in the areas of asbestos litigation management and employment law, defense and compliance.

**Dr. John K. Estell (Eng ’84) was featured in the April issue of the ABET newsletter, “CATALYST.” The article, “Spotlight: John Estell,” featured his early interest in computers and space, which led to a lifelong passion he now shares with his son. In the article, Estell says UT played a formative role in establishing his interest in computing. ABET is a forward-thinking, purpose-driven organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. ABET accredits more than 3,800 technical programs in 31 countries that are committed to the quality of the education they provide their students.

Dan Krinsky (Pharm ’81, PharmD ’84) was installed as trustee representing District 1 in the Ohio Pharmacists Association. He currently practices as manager of MTM Services for Giant Eagle pharmacy in Ravenna, Ohio. Krinsky is also an associate professor of pharmacy practice at the Northeast Ohio Medical University’s College of Pharmacy, and is actively involved in OPA’s Legal & Regulatory and Medication Therapy Management committees.

**Rodney Walton (Bus ’83) was promoted to senior vice president, senior private banker at First Federal Bank, headquartered in Defiance, Ohio. He is actively involved in the community and serves as vice chair and board member for the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts, trustee of the Findlay Country Club, member and past president of the Findlay Rotary Club, and member and past chair of the Findlay/Hancock County Chamber of Commerce.

Joseph Pavamani (MA ’84) is a UT alum living in Manipal, Karnataka-India. He is an assistant professor-senior scale at Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

’90s

Bob Miller (A/S ’96) was promoted to director of budgets in the Office of the Vice President for Strategic Enrollment at the University of Texas at San Antonio. In his new role, he oversees budgetary and business operations for the division of strategic enrollment.

Kenneth Campbell (UTCTC ’94) recently became the chief of police for the city of Walbridge, Ohio.

’00s

Dr. Carmen Quatman (PhD ’09, MED ’11) received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Science and Health Professions at Edinboro University in Edinboro, Pa. Quatman is an orthopaedic surgeon at Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center and an assistant professor in the Department or Orthopedics.

Dr. Brad Okdie (A/S ’03) received the Distinguished Teaching Award at the Ohio State University. The award honors faculty members for superior teaching. Present and former students, and faculty colleagues nominate recipients. Okdie was then inducted into the Ohio State University’s Academy of Teaching, which provides leadership for the improvement of teaching at Ohio State. Only 10 awards are presented out of a faculty of 5,000. Okdie is an associate professor of social psychology at Ohio State, and his research includes the study of the effects of media on interpersonal relationships.

Brandon Craig (Pharm ’05, PharmD ’07) was honored by the Ohio Pharmacists Association as an UNDER-40 award recipient for professional achievements and vision in the practice of pharmacy. He serves on the Ohio Pharmacists Association board of trustees, representing District 12. Craig is lead clinical pharmacist at Gentry Health Services and also practices at Discount Drug Mart.

Kelli Jones (A/S ’03, MA ’04) was featured in the May issue of “Outside Magazine.” She is the founder and CEO of Noso Patches, a permanent outdoor gear repair patch used to fix rips, snags and tears. Jones was a member of the UT swim team and served as Rocky the Rocket, UT’s mascot.

Captain Justin J. Shedron (A/S ’07) ) became a life member of the Ohio Bar Association as a licensed attorney-at-law.

Kevin Day (Pharm ’12, Honors ’12, PharmD ’14, Honors ’14) was honored by the Ohio Pharmacists Association as an UNDER-40 award recipient for professional achievements and vision in the practice of pharmacy. Day practices at Day’s Miami Heights Pharmacy in Cincinnati, while being a part of the leadership team of CPESN (Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Networks) Ohio, a clinically integrated network of community-based pharmacies that provide enhanced patient care services focused on reducing overall health care costs.

*Brandi Dobbs (AAS ’16) joined the law office of Kerr Russell as a summer associate. Kerr Russell is headquartered in Detroit.

Charisse Montgomery (MA ’10, MEd ’14) was selected as the first lay member of the editorial board for Pediatrics, the official flagship journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the most cited journal in pediatric medicine. She serves on the board and as president of the Patient and Family Partnership Council for Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Cleveland. Montgomery is the author of the “Super Safe Kids” book series, which promote self-advocacy to improve health care and community safety. The series includes the following books, “Power Wheelchair Safety for Kids,” “Hospital Safety for Kids,” and “Central Line Safety for Kids.”

Elena Cerdan Garcia (NSM ’15), *Michelle Davis (HHS ’18), Angelica Da Conceicao (Bus ’15) and Marcos Da Conceicao (current UT student) met for the first time since graduation in Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. The Canadian Rockies provided the perfect location to spend time together hiking, gathering around a nighttime fire and reminiscing about their time at UT. It turns out, by coincidence; they were all wearing UT gear. Cerdan Garcia, who resides in Spain, and Davis, who resides in Michigan, were both on the varsity track team and Angelica and Marcos are siblings from Venezuela.

*Jennifer Grey-Catera (Ed ’01, MEd ’04) and Brian Catera announce the birth of their son, Luca Joseph Catera, on Oct. 31, 2017.

*Susan (Anderson) Gruben (A/S ’69) and Walter R. Kaulfers were married on Oct. 22, 2017. Susan is a retired associate professor of horticulture and botany at Bergen Community College, located in Paramus, N.J., and Walter is retired as head electrician of the Meadowlands Racetrack and is the past grand master of the Freemasons of the State of New Jersey in 2016. The couple reside in Oakland, N.J. Together they have four children and 10 grandchildren.

*Katie (Smith) Arendt (A/L ’17) and *Dr. Daniel Arendt (Pharm ’16, PharmD ’18) were married on May 12 in Amherst, Ohio. Katie works in the admissions department at the Cleveland Institute of Art, and Dan is beginning his pharmacy residency at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center in Chardon, Ohio.

Debra A. (Byrd) Walton (UTCTC ’78), Toledo, 60. She worked at MCO for more than two decades as an EKG and an ultrasound technician at the hospital.

Virginia M. “Ginger” Hart, Curtice, Ohio, 76. She was a nurse who worked at MCO/MUO/UTMC from 1994 until her retirement in March 2018.

**Joseph J. O’Conor (Law ‘58), Atlantic Beach, Fla., 92. He joined the University in 1984 as an assistant to former UT President Glen Driscoll. Working in the Public Information office, he was the editor of the Toledo Alumni Magazine. O’Conor taught news writing and reporting classes for the Communication Department.

J. Carolyn Pupos, Toledo, 79. She was a secretary at MCO from 1977 until her retirement in 2002.

Jenny V. (Noworyta) Schlievert, Mooresville, N.C., 94. She was a member of the Satellites Auxiliary who volunteered in medical records at the hospital.
