Denise M. Hasbrook (A/S ’81, Law ’84) was selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2019, one of the most highly regarded referral publications in the legal profession. She is listed in the area of employment law, management. Hasbrook is a shareholder-in-charge of the Toledo office of Roetzel & Andress LPA.

Kenetta Kay Jones (Bus ’94) has been promoted to director of human resources for the Rudolph Libbe Group. In this role, she will assist in building the talent development system, as well as continuing to oversee the company’s core human resource functions. Headquartered in Toledo, the Rudolph Libbe Group is a one-step provider of construction and facility services that range from site selection and construction to energy solutions and ongoing facility management.

Dr. William V. Mars (MEng ’99, PhD ’01) is the president and founder of Endurica LLC, a company that provides pre-prototype solutions for developers seeking durability in elastomer products. Endurica announced the release of the Endurica Efficient Interpolation Engine, which ensures the durability of rubber parts operating under multi-channel, variable amplitude load histories. The engine can do calculations in seconds or minutes instead of hours or days.

**Lisa Williams (HSHS ’01) is the new president of the eastern campus of Cuyahoga Community College, located in Highland Hills, Ohio. She served as interim president for the past eight months. About 5,000 students are enrolled at the eastern campus.
Britney Ward (HSHS ’02, MHS ’03) received a 2018 20 Under 40 Leadership Recognition Award in Toledo. She was selected from a field of 255 candidates. The program focuses on individuals under the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves in their careers and/or the community. Ward is the director of community health improvement for the Hospital Council of Northwest Ohio. She sits on the board of the Health Policy Institute of Ohio.

**Jake Tullis (Bus ’16, Honors ’16) recently launched Mylai, a startup that specializes in licensing on-demand technologies to fitness locations. Mylai, headquartered in Cincinnati, transforms the usual gym into a high tech, low overhead profit machine by optimizing a trainer’s time and reducing staff hours through automation.

*Raymond Rodriguez (HHS ’16) was hired as an officer in the Farmington Hills, Mich. Police Department. He celebrated his swearing in ceremony with family and friends on Aug. 23. Rodriguez previously served for a year-and-a-half with the Detroit Police Department, assigned to the downtown services section. He is currently assigned to the patrol division of the operations bureau as part of the field training program.
Births and Marriages
*Stephanie Gurgol (HSHS ’12, Law ‘15) and *Tyler Guthrie (Bus ’14, MBA ’17) were married at St. Albert the Great Church in North Royalton, Ohio on Sept. 8. Their reception was at the Intercontinental Hotel Cleveland. Stephanie is a law clerk in Toledo for The Hon. Judge James G. Carr, and Tyler is a portfolio management associate at Key Private Bank. The couple honeymooned in Maui and Kauai, Hawaii.

*Kyle Jeffrey Evers (Eng ’15) and Megan Rose Bendele exchanged vows on Oct. 6 at Immaculate Conception Church in Ottoville, Ohio. Kyle is a project engineer at Husky Energy in Lima, Ohio, and Megan is a speech language pathologist at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

Jenna Agnew (Pharm ’09, PharmD ’11) and Nathan Rees were united in marriage on May 5 at the Whetstone Event Center in Louisville, Ky., where their Cinco de Mayo-themed reception also took place. Jenna is a pharmacist for various hospitals, and Nathan is a mobile expert with T-Mobile in Canton, Ohio. The couple also flip homes and manage rental properties. Jenna and Nathan honeymooned in Niagara Falls.
Death Notices

Faculty, staff & friends

*Dr. Richard Saxe, Toledo, 95. He joined the College of Education faculty as an associate professor in 1966. Two years later, Saxe was promoted to professor and assistant dean of research and development in the college. In 1969, he became chair of administration and supervision and later served as associate dean for research and development. His honors include being named Professor of the Year by the American Association of School Administrators in 1984 and Teacher of the Year by Phi Delta Kappa honorary in 1983-84. In addition, Saxe was named Distinguished University Professor in 1987. His research focused on educational leadership, as well as the relationships between school systems and their communities. Saxe retired from UT in 1993 and received the emeritus designation.

Dr. Robert “Bob” Brady, Reading, Mich., 78. He taught education classes at the University.

Marcia G. (Guttenberg) Friedman, Sylvania, Ohio, 91. She was an administrative assistant in the Admissions Office for 20 years, retiring in the 1980s.

Elaine Hester, Toledo, 64. She was a nurse at MCO from 1981 to 1991.

Dominic R. Mattoni, Perrysburg, Ohio, 61. He was a custodial worker at UT from 2004 to 2011.

Katherine G. “Kae” Ames (Univ Coll ’00), Toledo, 95. She was a medical transcriptionist at MCO until her retirement. While taking classes, she sang with the Concert Chorale.

*Calvin Lawshe (Bus ’72, MBA ’75), Maumee, Ohio, 71. Lawshe played basketball for the Rockets and was a member of the Mid-American Conference Champions in 1966-67. He joined the faculty as an instructor in the Business Technology Department in 1974. Three years later, he was named assistant professor. The promotions continued, and he was appointed chair of the department in 1987. Lawshe was named assistant to the vice president for academic affairs in 1994. In 2000, he was appointed interim vice president for student services and continued in his role as assistant to the president for community relations. He retired in 2002 and taught until 2003. Over the years, Lawshe was involved in many scholarship and fundraising efforts to benefit minority students. He chaired the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Committee. In addition, he served on the Athletic Board of Control, was a member of faculty senate, and was a faculty representative to the NCAA.

Dolores A. (Gogolewski) Lucitte, Temperance, Mich., 77. She was a data processor in the College of Business for two decades, retiring in 2002.

Dr. John L. Mason, Waterville, Ohio, 87. He joined the University as an assistant professor of marketing in 1960. Four years later, Mason was named assistant dean of the College of Business and was appointed dean in 1966. He left UT in 1974 and returned to teach as a visiting professor of marketing in 1987.

Dr. Daniel C. “Dan” Seemann (MA ’63, PhD ’79), Sylvania, Ohio, 88. He served as the first director of student activities from 1967 to 1976. Seemann was also a member and former chair of the Athletic Control Board. After receiving his doctorate, Seemann started his career as a faculty member, teaching classes for several years. His love of music was well known; the bass player founded the Dan Seemann Quintet, a group that played gigs on campus and in the Toledo area.

Gregory J. Wingate (UTCTC ’85, Univ Coll ’92), Toledo, 54. He was a former painter at the University.

Lawrence Turner, Toledo, 85. He was a former University employee who retired in 1985.

Tad Weed, Ypsilanti, Mich., 61. He joined the UT faculty as an assistant professor of jazz piano in 2011 and was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2017. Weed taught jazz piano, arranging and improvisation, and was co-director of Vocalstra, a vocal jazz ensemble founded by legendary singer Jon Hendricks. Weed toured with Anita O’Day and Carmen McRae. For more than a decade, he was the music director for Paul Anka. Weed performed with many other artists, including Chaka Khan, Jack Jones and Betty Carter.
