’70s
Dr. Elizabeth Biglin (Ed ’76, MEd ’92, PhD ’05) has a nature art exhibit in January at Inniswood Metro Gardens, located in Westerville, Ohio. It is a retrospective exhibit that will contain print, acrylic works, mixed media and photos taken at the parks in and around Columbus.
’80s

**Thomas R. Uhler (Eng ’80) was named Trustee of the Year by the Ohio Library Council for his efforts as a board of trustees member of the Rossford Public Library.

’90s

Dave Stark (Bus ’93) joined The Fremont Company as vice president of human resources. Stark will lead all company human resource initiatives at the 112-year-old consumer food products company which is headquartered in Fremont, Ohio. The Fremont Company manufactures, markets and distributes store brand and branded food products to customers worldwide, including private brand ketchup, Frank’s Sauerkraut and Mississippi BBQ Sauce.

Albert Thigpen (Pharm ’94) joined LDI Integrated Pharmacy Services as chief operations officer. Thigpen will develop and deploy disruptive and differentiated products and services that empower clients with actionable data insights and engage plan members with tools and information to take charge of their health. LDI Integrated Pharmacy Services, located in Creve Coeur, Mo., provides pharmacy benefits management for health insurers, third-party administrators and a variety of self-insured organizations.

Amy Sealts (A/S ’92) has a new role as director of the Putnam County Community Improvement Corp., located in Ottawa, Ohio. The purpose of the organization is to advance, encourage and promote the industrial, economic, commercial and research development within Putnam County.

’00s

Alison Pollacek (MHS ’04, MHS ’04) is certified in neurologic physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists. Pollacek is a physical therapist at UTMC in Outpatient Therapy Services.

Juan Montoya (A/S ’09) won third place in the prestigious Blue Danube International Opera Conducting Competition in Bulgaria. Montoya is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in orchestral conducting and opera at the University of Arizona, where he is the music director of the UA Philharmonic Orchestra and the assistant conductor for the Arizona Symphony Orchestra. The conducting competition is held every two years and the prizes are coveted conducting jobs in Europe.

Eman Jarouche (HSHS ’07, MED cert ’10, PTD ’10, CJHS cert ’15) is certified in neurologic physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists. Jarouche is a physical therapist at UTMC in Outpatient Therapy Services.

Dr. Jessica Reynolds (MED ’01) joined Surgical Associates of Northwest Ohio, part of Blanchard Valley Health System. She specializes in robotic and minimally invasive procedures for hernias. Reynolds also helps with the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), performs endoscopic procedures, such as Stretta and minimally invasive procedures, such as LINX for GERD management.

Dr. Matt Kinkley (PhD ’03) accepted a position as the Area 8 Director of Ohio Means Jobs Workforce Development Board. The Office of Workforce Development provides information and tools to Ohio’s workforce system. They interpret federal and state law, and administer federal programs that create a comprehensive statewide workforce system of employment services.

Carlos Gooden (A/S ’08, MEd ’10) accepted a position as associate director of admissions at Xavier University of Louisiana.

*Candice Harrison (A/S ’01) is the new external communications manager at Toledo Public Schools. Harrison currently serves on the UT Alumni Association’s Board of Trustees.

Seth Metzger (Eng ’03) was featured on “It’s How You Get There,” a new show on the History Channel. Metzger is the vice president of light vehicle engineering at Dana Inc., headquartered in Maumee, Ohio. The aftermarket axles for the Jeep Wrangler, manufactured in Toledo, were the focus of the episode. Dana has a robust aftermarket parts division that makes a variety of off-road components.

Dr. Greg Guzman (PhD ’14) is the new vice president of institutional advancement, director of development at Winebrenner Theological Seminary, located in Findlay, Ohio. Guzman will serve as a member of Winebrenner’s senior leadership team, planning and executing the institution’s strategic initiatives.

Dr. Matt Rheinecker (PhD ’15) accepted the position of senior director of development at Adrian College, located in Adrian, Mich. Adrian College is a modern liberal arts college that has been recognized by the U.S. News & World Report as the #1 Up-and-Coming College in the Midwest.

Nico Covarrubias (LLSS ’14, MEd ’17) is the new residence director at the University of Texas at Arlington, a public research university.

Amber Rose Harper (MNRS ’14) joined Southside Butts County Medical Center, located in Jackson, Ga. Services at the medical center include primary medical care, mental health services and dentistry. Harper will focus on women’s health.

Births and Marriages

Spencer Gelhaus (Pharm ’13) and Jennifer Dirksen were married on October 14 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bryant, Ind. Spencer is an analytical chemist at Brookside Laboratories, Inc., in New Bremen, Ohio, and Jennifer is pursuing her master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics.

Joann Ruch (Ed ’94), Oregon, Ohio, 82. She was a former nurse at MCO/MUO/UTMC.

Al Melis, Temperance, Mich., 87. He was a longtime faculty member who retired from the Department of Art in 1999. Melis created UT’s first ceremonial mace and presidential medallion, and he made a gold coin for recipients of MCO’s Glidden L. Brooks Award. He played an integral role in Toledo’s glass art movement in the 1960s.

Mildred “Jean” Palmer, Toledo, 91. She worked at UT from 1997 to 2002.

John L. “Butch” Sullivan, Toledo, 76. He was a member of the Satellites Auxiliary.
